Dentist day

Today was a big day for Colin. His first dental cleaning and Xray session.

I thought I would try the pediatric dentist practice 2 blocks from the house since nothing else we need to do seems to be close. I thought, this time, something should be convenient.  For those in the Charleston region, it is Coastal Kids Dentistry in Hanahan.

WOW!  What a place this was!

I realize that it has been a very long time since I was involved in pediatric dentistry, but I don't ever remember my Dentist being this cool or the office being this much fun.

This is my all time-- LEAST favorite part of going to the Dentist.  I HATE Xrays.  I absolutely gag when one of those bite wings comes toward my mouth. Once it took 4 staff members to get my Xrays because they had to snap the shot so fast.  It isn't pretty ya'll.  But Colin?  He was amazing. He did not flinch. Every shot was perfect.

He was such a trooper today and was a very good patient.  Of course, having a flat screen TV hanging above his head to watch during his exam probably didn't hurt.

and no, he was not disappointed when he saw the built in Xboxes in the "big kid" lounge.

Sadly, this will not be our last visit to see our friendly, neighborhood Dentist. The verdict?  We need a deep cleaning and an orthodontic consult. ***So excited***

Ok, it could have been much worse, but for those of you lurkers who are considering international adoption, you need to know that in many parts of the world, dental care is not a real priority and so many families come to find that this is an area that needs attention soon after coming home.  

All the wonderful ladies at Coastal Kids Dental did a wonderful job and made this "big boy" feel comfortable with his first American Dentist's visit. Thanks!
